Specify the FactoryTalk Directory location

Specify the FactoryTalk Directory location to select which computer hosts the network directory. FactoryTalk ViewPoint Administration uses this directory to find applications to publish and to authenticate user groups. Changing this setting affects all Rockwell Automation software that connects to the network directory on the FactoryTalk ViewPoint server.

To specify the FactoryTalk Directory location

  1. On the FactoryTalk ViewPoint Server computer, click Start > All Programs > Rockwell Software > FactoryTalk Tools, and then click Specify FactoryTalk Directory Location.
  2. If you receive a prompt to log on, type a user name and password, and then click OK.

    Important:

The account must have administrative privileges in Windows® and the FactoryTalk Network Directory on the computer that hosts the FactoryTalk Directory.

  3. In the FactoryTalk Directory Server Location Utility, click the browse button.
  4. In the FactoryTalk Directory Server Configuration dialog box, select the FactoryTalk Directory location:
    • This computer - The network directory is hosted locally on this computer.
    • Remote computer - The network directory is hosted on the specified computer.
  5. Click OK.

    Tip:

The FactoryTalk user accounts listed on the Security Settings page depend on the application type selected. For example, if you select Site Edition (Network) accounts in the current network directory are displayed. Users in different FactoryTalk Directories must be assigned to FactoryTalk ViewPoint security groups separately.
